Alongside the West Okement river, these romantic ruins are all that remain of the late Norman castle, rebuilt around 1300. Okehampton stands on the road between Exeter and Cornwall and must have had some strategic importance in earlier centuries - hence this grand castle.

I was stationed at this camp in 1968 for a few weeks of Army exercises. Looked a lot different then! Very nice country, but very cold out on the moors at night!
