More about this scene

The main suite of rooms is south of the Great Hall. The library has an ornate chimneypiece carved in oak by a highly skilled carver from Mansfield. The overmantel panel shows the Major Oak (E142030, on page 89) from Sherwood Forest, while the figures on either side of the fireplace are Robin Hood on the left and Little John on the right. Sherwood Forest in which Thoresby sits is, of course, the heart of Robin Hood country.
