More about this scene
The Thames, or Isis, plays an important role in Oxford university life. Here, we are on the tow path along the west bank, looking north towards Christchurch Meadow; it is the end of May, and the annual Eights Week, when the college boats race each other, is in full swing. Spectators in up-to-the-minute fashions look on from the shore and from punts.
