More about this scene
The coming of the railway in 1884 prompted the tasteful residential development of this new part of the village of Oxted, overlooking the Weald. A top-hatted coachman directs his trap along the centre of the highway towards a wagon at the roadside by the chandler's shop - its horse is busily engaged in investigating the contents of its nosebag.
