Saint Philomena’s Convent 1954

A Memory of Pantasaph.

Hello Pauline,
I was a boarder here from 1953 to 1955, just wondering when the name was changed to St Clare’s ? I don’t remember your name or your sister. I was known as Veronica Meyers, was taken very ill whilst a boarder with Rheumatic Fever, so, spent a long time in the infirmary which was right up at the top of the building, was often served horrible fried bread to eat which I more.often than not managed to throw out of the little window for the birds to eat on the roof top, so, didn’t get to mix with all the pupils for many months. I was there when they laid on a coach to go to Liverpool for some special religious ceremony, I also remember we all sat in the huge hall to watch the Queen’s coronation, do you remember that occasion ? Also remember we were allowed to spend some of our pocket money once a week to buy sweets within the Convent, the highlight of our week ! It was interesting to read your memories of this institution, I seem to remember it was run by an order of Dutch nuns those days. Would be interested to hear from you with any interesting little insights you may remember.
Best wishes,
Veronica
