Manaton Road

A Memory of Peckham.

Hi my husbands family lived in manaton rd the lewis family ,sid &frances their children Christine ,siddey. joyce , lenny their dad sid was in the Navy ,his wife france family were frank & rose Gillman , frank & Sid drank in the star of india pub back in the 50s ,Can anyone recall a bakers in phillip road called Pape bakers the man that run the shop was german, his grandson's name was Raymond he was about 25 year's old back then, would love to hear any infor that you may have,.

Hi Caroline.

My mum talks fondly about the Papes bakers. Her Dad would let her sit in the shop and eat all the produce while he was baking there.
It was his families bakery.
I found this story while looking online for photos of the bakery, so if anyone has any memories or pictures, please get in touch

I lived in manaton rd number the Claude rd end number 54.i knew Lenny and his family the gilman family lived at number 24 and later lived at 22.i think Lenny lived at 28. My mates were young Frankie and ray gilman.my name is John hatton.i still live in peckham.im 75 .good times.

I now think Lenny lived at number 20 and Mr and Mrs gilman lived at 24 then moved to 26. (Mavis cousins old house ). John Hatton.

I remember a carol Steven’s who lived in manaton road is that the same one .she had a brother named Brian.

Yes Carol had a brother named Brian. Her dad was George. I worked with Carol at the gas works in Old Kent Rd. We lost touch unfortunately. Would love to see her again.
