Pegwell, Coastguard Cottages 1907

More about this scene
This row of diminutive, white cottages provided accommodation for the Coastguards maintaining a watch along this busy stretch of the Kent coastline with its treacherous offshore sandbanks. The bay, with its wide sandy beach, was almost certainly the landing place of the Danish brothers Hengist and Horsa, who came to Britain in 449AD to fight for the British king Vortigern against the marauding Picts.
