More about this scene
Askham, four miles south of Penrith, is one of the most attractive villages in the former county of Westmorland, and Askham Bridge, spanning the River Lowther, is one of the most graceful structures. This scene, with its rocky riverbed and tree-clad banks, has hardly changed in a century.
