More about this scene

This sprawling 14th-century house is an impressive sight. It was the birthplace of the poet-soldier Sir Philip Sidney, who died for his country in 1582. More than 350 years later his descendant, Major Philip Sidney, was awarded a Victoria Cross for gallantry in the Second World War. Today the house is open to the public.
