Interesting that the Post Office is spelled without the hyphens, but spellings, as we have noted, are a peculiar Welsh idiosyncrasy and every town, village and street can have a slightly or totally dissimilar spelling from place to place. It is in the Welsh nature to be different.

Evans the grocer previously mentioned was my grandfather, William Henry Evans who had a grocery shop at 50 Mikado St Penygraig.
He delivered groceries all over Penygraig with the horse and cart.
I can remember in the late 50's riding on the cart with him.
He had several horses over the years but the one I remember was "Dandy" who knew all the customers houses and would stop outside without any instructions.
I Remember Peglers when I used to deliver goods for them on a bike with a Basket on the front of it and the co-op was just across the road,A driver who delivered goods for them his name was frank who lived in belle view "Penygraig" asked to work for him after school for pocket money and tips.
My father, who is still alive, was born in Trealaw in 1917. He remembers the miner's strike and his father digging into the slag heaps to get coal. He remembers going to the soup kitchen and the strikers walking to London and coming back disheartened. His best friend was killed down the pit the first week he started, so he became a baker.
I am trying to find the name of the photography shop that was in Pen-y Craig for many years. Does anybody know the name of it?
Searching for a Nantymoel soldier of the 8th Btn Sherwood Foresters who fought the Germans in Norway in April 1940 as part of the ill-fated Norwegian campaign of the "Sickleforce" /148th Infantry Brigade (Territorials).
