Anything For A Dare!
A Memory of Perivale.
As a family we moved into house in Perivale in the early 1930's.Our house was situated in Conway Crescent . It was a new estate of privatly built Houses . A brand new school was at the centre of it .This was Selbourne School. I attended this school from the age of 5 until I left at 14 apart from a short period when I was evacuated during the war.
Yes I certainly do remember the "Chinese" house at the bottom of the hill on Horsenden Lane.As kids we used to dare each other creep up to the front door ,bang on it and run like the clappers but with much hilarity and shouting. I dont ever remember anyone ever answering the door . There were members of the gang who swore they saw a FU MAN CHU figure looking out of one of the windows.
All completly untrue of course but we chose to belive it. It raised the pulse rate and the esteem of the door banger amongst the group.
Very happy days and a great place to grow up in. All very different now though.
