Perranporth Primary School In 1960

A Memory of Perranporth.

I began school in the hut above the playing fields ( later becoming the scout/guide hut and play group).
Miss Howlet was our teacher, we sang and heard bible stories and use little coloured sticks for our sums.
Playing with brown plasticine or toys from the cupboard in the afternoon.
When it was cold our little bottles of milk were placed on the heater to warm.
A year later we moved to the new school on Liskey Hill with large windows and wooden polished floors.
Such an impressive building at the time, we had a dining room no more eating in the class room,
We had a giant snail or tea pot outside the reception class to climb on unfortunately a number of children were hurt falling off. I don't think it stayed long.
When I was in the second class Miss Masters was our teacher. We had a very early colour class photo we were told not to wear white because it did not work with the new technology.

Comments & Feedback

I started school in January 1959 with Miss Howlet in the flat roofed building (now demolished) on Bolenna Lane. A year later I moved to St Michael's church hall for a year with Miss Masters, who I loved to bits. After that it was up to the new school on Liskey Hill.
