This view from the castle's east gate shows the same buildings as in picture No 25340. The 14th-century Mint House, on the left, was once the home of Andrew Borde - 'merry Andrew' - a former Carthusian Friar, and court physician to Henry VIII. He advertised his abilities by shouting about the cures he had effected at country fairs, yet he is known to have worn a hair shirt.
