Pickering Castle lies to the north of the town and was founded by William the Conqueror, though the earliest ruins date from the 12th century. The ruins are substantial, and include the curtain wall, three towers, a shell keep standing on a motte, chapel and halls.

Not seen this picture for a long , long time . When I lived up POTTER HILL I used to go this way to get to the ROOKER'S . From POTTER HILL you headed towards BECON PARK , then branched off right , along a lane , think it was called COULTMAN'S CUT , that led to where this photo was taken , looking toward's the RAILWAY and the CASTLE . I used to go this way to play at the ROOKER'S , and we went to roll our easter egg's ...see more
