The Red Lion Pub And The 221 Bus.
A Memory of Pinner.
Before I moved to The Ridgeway in 1955 I live in Woodall Drive and regularly used the 221 bus to trundle up Paines Lane past my school, and ending up in the space outside the RedLion pub. I remember how the bus rocked each time the driver climbed in and out of his cab!
Both the driver and conductor used to disappear into the pub, presumably for a comfort break, at the end of the journey.
I seem to remember that when the pub finally was demolished , one of the shops built was Owen Faulkner s the jewelers.
My mother used to by our fruit and veg in the shop near the bottom of the High Street, and I was a Paper Boy delivering papers around Hatch End from the papershop next door.....7 days a week all for 10/6d !!!!!
Sad to have lost contact with so many close friends both at St Anselms Church youth club and of course The Ridgeway .
Lovely memories of a lovely place........... Always be a piece of Pinner with me.
