More about this scene
Polperro is the archetypal Cornish fishing village - a higgledy-piggledy maze of narrow streets leading down to a perfect, tiny harbour. The east-facing harbour entrance is sheltered from westerlies, but in 1824 a mighty easterly storm demolished the breakwaters and wrecked the fleet, a disaster from which it took the village a long time to recover.
