Polperro, An Old Smugglers Cottage 1924

More about this scene
Polperro's cottages, many slate-hung and with outside stone staircases, seem to grow out of the very rock, and the town has been poetically described as 'a human bees' nest stowed away in a cranny of the rocks'. This cottage was an infamous refuge for smugglers and a store-house for their contraband.
