The homes in the middle distance would have been built to house the employees of the many market gardens in the area. Those closer to the camera were probably erected after the First World War, but have now been incorporated into the many housing estates built since the 1960s.

My parents moved to Pottonin 1937 on the Land Resettlement Scheme from Sunderland. As I was only 18 months old at the time and we were not there long, my memories consist of photographs only and these are of members of my family working the land.
