Ramsgate, Victoria Parade 1901

More about this scene
This broad parade, named after Queen Victoria, runs along the East Cliff in front of Wellington Crescent and the lawns. Erected in the middle of the green was an oak statue of Wellington, constructed by a shipwright, William Miller. It was later burnt down, some say by a drunken Irishman who objected to the Duke's politics. A well-known resident was Sir Charles Warren, an army commander in the Boer War, and Chief Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police during the hunt for Jack the Ripper.
