More about this scene

The River Wye frames the town centre, running in a loop around the western and southern sides. This was the scene of the Rebecca Riots in the 19th century, when local farmers and workers, protesting against the high level of tolls, disguised themselves in women's clothing and tore down the tollgates. At Rhayader is the mighty Claerwen Dam. It is one of four dams in the Elan Valley which supply water to Birmingham.
