More about this scene
The amount of change since 1929 is surprisingly small, although Cookes the stationer's has become Austin's. Below the second window of the building marked 'Restaurant' (the fifth building from the left) is the opening to Bank Yard, named after the Old Bank which occupied the building in 1792. The roofs behind, parallel to the High Row of the Market Place, are houses in Waterloo Street, demolished in 1963.
