Memories of Rillington, the Council Houses c1960

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. These memories are of Rillington, The Council Houses c.1960

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I was born at number 31 which is the first Airey house in the right of the photo in 1961. I remember the lovely cherry blossom trees growing up and piglets in the back garden opposite and chalking on the footpath outside the house to play hopscotch, I also remember how years later they rebuilt the houses with the people in them! Hapoy to say that family still live at 31 and the house is full of children again! I wonder who the ladies are on the street and the children playing?
This area looks a lot different now as the 'Airy' houses on the right of Woodlands Road and to the left have been clad in bricks. To the left of the crossroads is the Woodlands Grove area and to the right Woodlands Avenue. My parents left 6 woodlands Avenue to move across the village but came back in 1966 to live at no. 5. Like Ian (my second cousin) I was related to many people who lived on the Woodlands Estate. Tim Owston
Yes Dan it is. You visited regularly and still do I believe. Cousin Ian.
This is looking down Woodlands; behind was fields till they built retirement bungalows. I think this photo is early 60s. Great memories, I lived in no.21. Between Simpsons and Owstons.
