More about this scene

The Market House was built for Sir Thomas Tresham of Rushton Hall. Originally with its ground floor open behind the arches, it was left unfinished, amazingly, for over three centuries, and finally completed in 1895. It is a curious Tudor 'alien' in the Georgian and Victorian town centre. The building behind was demolished in 1965, but that on the left, dated 1710, survives.

A Selection of Memories from Rothwell

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Rothwell

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I visited the Bluebell Inn and spent only a modest amount, however I left half a crown as a tip because of a very nice waitress. I left and had walked about two blocks, when the lady chased me down to thank me. I was quite surprised at this, but managed to remain calm and smiled graciously. Told her that if I came again to the Bluebell, I would surely look her up.
