Sir Henry Williamson Peek, of the biscuit family, built a mansion here in 1870 and while he was at it got his architects, George and Vaughan, to build this church. The Devon historian Hoskins, who seems not to have been a fan of Victorian church building, said 'It has nothing to recommend it'.
