More about this scene

Sir Henry Williamson Peek, of the biscuit family, built a mansion here in 1870 and while he was at it got his architects, George and Vaughan, to build this church. The Devon historian Hoskins, who seems not to have been a fan of Victorian church building, said 'It has nothing to recommend it'.

Rousdon During The Peek Years

Allhallows School, Rousdon
This photo is of what was Allhallows School Rousdon, after the house was sold by the PEEK family, of Peek Frean biscuit fame in about 1935 I believe. I went to Allhallows in 1944, and left in 1948 but my memories of the school were that of a difficult time. I remember we had some escaped German POWs supposedly hiding on the landslip cliffs towards the end of the war. There was a wonderful ...see more

Relatives Buried At Rousdon Church
My great grandmother's sister Frances Ostler/nee Start (died 1889) is buried at Rousdon Church yard with her husband Luke Ostler (died 1916). They have a very strange looking memorial it is a long oak slab with an upright at either end, I have never seen a memorial like it before. It is now very weathered and starting to rot. All Hallows School
All Hallows school was started in Honiton - now Honiton Museum - by my father's uncle John Murch and later moved to Lyme Regis. John Murch died in Bournemouth in 1959.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
