Fairy Street Rutherglen
A Memory of Rutherglen.
My mum moved to Rutherglen from Springburn when I was 2 years old. We moved to a tenement in Harriet Street facing Fairy Street. When I turned 5 Fairy Street School had now been closed and I had to go to Bankhead Primary which I wasn't happy about! I have great memories of the shops facing the school. It was a great meeting place for children and families, I remember a wee shop, a grocer/sweetie type shop and the man who ran it, I cant remember his name. He was lovely, really kind. We moved when I was around 7 or 8 to Farme Cross as the tenements were being knocked down, but I remember Fairy Street, Harriet Street and Bouverie Street as a lovely area and friendly place to live.
