More about this scene

The village and salt marshes here have had an uneasy relationship over the years. In 1851 about 500 acres of marsh in the village and adjoining parishes were drained, but in the 1860s the banks were broken and never properly repaired. The resultant creeks are picturesque, but wise locals keep sandbags ready in the event of seasonal flooding.
