More about this scene
This view has altered considerably. The brick building on the right has gone, and the timber building beside it has been extended. The building on the left, however, has hardly changed - it is the Lower Chequer pub, thought to be the oldest building in the town, built in 1570. Notice the platform just beside the entrance from where riders could mount their horses.
