We are looking down Cross Square to the magnificent Cathedral.
The White Hart Inn of c1630 is an exception - it can just be seen behind the village cross (centre).
The column, mounted on a base of octagonal steps, supports a stone ball which was originally topped by a metal spike, constituting the market 'cross'.
