Good Old Days.....

A Memory of Seascale.

I was a "Calder girl" from 1951 or 52 to 1959. I didn't like it much at the time, but now of course, I have many, many memories. I know so many of the hymns in the English hymn book because we had to learn them for punishments. Not surprisingly I was never made a prefect! I was happiest walking past the golf course to go the farm to ride. I remember the half terms when parents could visit and B&G always had a play to put on. Then the misery of saying goodbye. Then the excitement and sleeplessness of the last night of term. Swimming in the summer, standing in line and counting off. Sleeping in Garth, Thwait and Rigg. I now live in the States and last summer my son and I went "over the pond" to visit my sister in Wales and drove over to Seascale for the day. The school is of course very different, as is the village, which is much larger. So many memories came back to me that day, walking around in the drizzle.

I have found my grandmothers Calder school old girls association life membership card..Cecily Smith. She was at school circa 1930.
