A Memory of Shooters Hill.

It was a joy to read the comments about SHGS. I was there from 9/54 to 2/60. I remember nearly all the teachers, good and bad. One of the good ones was Mr Rudd who was our form master in 1R. I have it in my memory that he came from the west country but can believe otherwise."Max" Faulkner was the other PE master and was the complete opposite to Mr Rudd."Loopy" Lloyd was our sports master looking after us at both house and school level but I will say no more about him except that playing through all the teams (except the first team) we faired really well. Aske's Colf's, Dartford and Gravesend were our biggest challengers. Cross country running into the woods was very popular as it gave m
Harry Hanks was the head and i hated him . He banned me and a couple of others from all sport because I refused to play cricket for the school team. Rugby was fine but cricket took up the whole day and prevented me from getting a Saturday job so thatc any of us the chance to ease off for a smoke before reappearing mear to home. Hope we didn't spoil it for you youngsters. In my time we had five houses, Briggs, Brodie, Clarke's, Leathers and Platts. I wore the green of Clarkes. Can't remember who wore what colours for the other houses.
Other smoking haunts were, the Sancturay, Fives, courts and the cycle shed.
I had cash in my pocket when going out Saturday night.I feel I could go on for ages but wont bore you. I will say though that myself and 4 other old boys, all aged 75 get together twice a year for a meal and a chat. We are convinced that we recall the same stories each year as our retention is very bad. We gather in the Kent/Sussex area. If anybody remembers me or others of my era and would be interested in joining us please contact me, Chris Coombs
