The Bowling Green 1906 The grass of this bowling green seems remarkably long compared with modern ones. Bowls was one of the most popular seaside holiday pastimes and every resort had at least one bowling green, supplemented by lawn tennis courts in some cases, and of course by the more lighthearted holiday games like golf putting and its even more casual daughter, crazy golf. Nowadays a covered leisure centre and swimming pool is essential to success. Worthing now has its Aquarena, a hideous neologism, and Leisure Centre.

Where I Came From. By Christine Harris (Formerly Hudson)
I was born at 42 Stanley Avenue Portslade, on 21st July 1944. We moved to Shoreham after the war and Dad ran a small transport cafe, which, last time I visited it was a bookmakers called Sargeant Harris. Buckingham Road
Does anyone remember a plane crashing into a front garden in Buckingham Road on Friday 13 March 1964? It was in the garden of a house on the right-hand side as you go down the road, approximately opposite No 54. I was married the following day and was driven from The Drive down Buckingham Road to St Marys Church, and remember the driver and my father being more interested in the plane than in the bride they were taking to church! I don't know if the pilot survived... do hope so.

Toy Shop
I remember the shop sold toys and every week I would spend my pocket money on animals for my toy farm. I would spend ages deciding what to buy or whether to wait until I could afford a more expensive item like a horse and cart!

Seaside Holidays
My family rented a summer holiday bungalow in Shoreham starting I think, around 1957 when I was 4 and continued until the early 1960's. My parents, three older brothers, an elderly aunt and our cat, Peter. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
