Lavish memories of playing in Moodys Farm field (stories of Elephants being buried there ??)
Wonderful Mr. Sheppard in his shop dishing out 6p worth of Cola Cubes !!
Floods in the mid 60s and wading through water knee deep (to a kid !!)
Father Christmas on the back of a pickup through the Winter streets.
Snow at Xmas !!!
Felling Conkers outside Smallfield Place fence.
The Old Post Office come shop (Ham,Cheese etc) along with the Mobile Library & Mobile Barbers.
Going to the little School up the road and old Mrs. Butler Teacher, and then on to the BIG Primary School.
Playing Shinty in the playground.
Dear Mr. Johnston. Headmaster.
Friends...........Timothy Collins. I was staying over when the Moon Landing happened !! Trevor Eagle, Francine Gillings (serious crush on Francine at 7 !!) Peter Youles, Andrew Gardner, Mark Payne. Barry & Raymond Miller.
Bulldog Butch (Bullseye in Oliver !!) at the Morleys, ambling slowly down the paths.
Remember the sound of the Airplane exploding at Balcombe in 68/9?

Above all just remember a beautiful childhood full of adventure and friends, wide open spaces in the glorious 60s.

A fabulous account of growing up in Smallfield. I completely went back in time and I remember everything that was so beautifully written. Moodys farm was owned by my dads cousin. Mr Sheppard was lovely and he knew my dad when my dad was a little boy. Mrs Butler was very strict and quite intimidating as was White, Mrs Collins was wonderful and of course Mr Johnson was amazing a really caring man he also knew the magician Ali Baba who sometimes came to the school to entertain. Lush school dinners however Mrs Winter was a stickler for elbows on the table and finishing your dinner very aware that pushing your food to the side of your plate.A wonderful place to grow up and lots of my childhood friends still live there. Joanna Ralph ( nee Moody).
