This part of Grays was developed in the 1930s. This road, Lodge Lane, was then the main A13, linking Southend and London. In the foreground is Albert Winn's confectioner's, with its well-stacked window display. Other shops include Grays Co- op and Stanley Barker's butcher's. The girls' white shoes and socks are typical of the mid 50s.
