Clifton School 1965 1971
A Memory of Southall.
Hi
I hope someone from my time at Clifton infants and juniors will see this and get in touch. It would be great to hear from someone.
We had newly arrived in the UK in 1965 and joined Clifton Infants and then the Juniors before leaving for Secondary School in 1971. I still have vivid memories of my time there and remember amongst others the following teachers. In the infants Mrs Camp [head teacher], Mrs MacDonald, Mrs Curtain and Mrs Blanche. In the juniors the headmaster was Mr Hancock and later Mr Shapcott, Mr Drew, Mr Steggles, Mrs Brady and Mrs Wright.
The pupils included Rajiv [who I have been in touch with], Sarjit Shokar, Amar Sharma, Davinder Randhawa, Davinder Oberoi, Kewal, Jagtar, John Gibson, John Tucker [the football capt], John Corkwell?, Mark, Simon, Terry, Victor and girls Gillian, Gopali, Nirmal, Ravinder, Gurinder Chadha (now a famous film producer of "Bend it Like Beckham"), Roma Grant, Ravinder, Janet Smith, Julia Grey.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and remember the school trip to Isle of Wight in the final year. In those days Mrs Brady used to teach us ballroom dancing and as boys we were not too keen - I wish I had learnt now that Strictly Come Dancing is so popular.
I fondly remember our great games of football in the playground when we just could not wait for break time and in the morning we used to be so keen to play we would arrive at the school at 8am and stay to play after school also.
In the final year I was Head Boy for half the year and Simon was for the other half. The Head Girls were Gillian and Gopali.
I first lived on Regina Road, Southall, moved to Hounslow, then Heston and now live in Derby having moved here in 2000. The aim was to escape the hustle and rat race of London but probably worked even harder as I used to commute to London regularly and stay over a couple of nights. In 2012 I had a health scare but thank God am now in generally good health and over the worst. I am Self Employed as an accountant and have now gone part time which gives me time to play with my granddaughter who is two and reminisce.
I am trying to put my memories together so any contributions to jog my memory of Southall and School days would be most welcome.
I post this with great hope in my heart.

What a lot of lovely memories you have brought back. I don’t remember Mrs. Brady teaching ballroom dancing but I do remember her teaching the recorder.
Another name from the infants, Mrs Batchelor. I think I remember no one wanting to be in Mrs. Mac Donald’s class because she was very strict. We used to have an old gentleman come in to school, I don’t think he was a teacher, and I think he taught us poetry. His name escapes me. I don’t remember John Corkwell there was a John Cosherall/ Cosherell. Glen Farmer I remember. Namanwant Attwall. So many lovely friends.
I am glad you have recovered from your health scare.
Best of all wishes to you. Kim Carter
