Memories Of Southall

A Memory of Southall.

Lived in West End Road from 1960 to 1969, my brother was born there in 1961. We both attended Beaconsfield Road Infant School. My teacher for the first 3 years was Mrs Blong, our headmistress was Mrs Goodall. Have many happy memories of Southall Park, the Broadway, attending Brownies at the King's Hall, going by bus to Ealing and then catching the tube into London. Names I remember, Tina Fletcher, Lorraine MacKay, Jenny Stocker, Stephen O'Dell. There was a pub up our road, The Beaconsfield Arms, no longer there now, my dad was a regular patron. Of course I remember the canal, a little boy from our school drowned there, his name was Mark Greenwood. Very diverse community, we had Indians, Pakistanis, West Indians and so we had friends of all races. My maiden name was Langley. Emigrated to South Africa October 1969.

How Interesting that you emigrated to South Africa - my uncle also born in Southall - but in 1910 - also emigrated to South Africa (J'burg) in 1948 where there were better job opportunities. He and his wife had both lived in Townsend Road.,

Hi April, Townsend Road was the next road to ours, towards the canal. I still live in S Africa, in Port Elizabeth. I used to nurse in Jhb. I lived in Southall for most of my childhood from approx 1956 -1970, I didn't recall my infants school name,maybe Beaconsfield as other stories said. I went to Featherstone Rd Girls School,we travelled to the new boys school on Wester Rd further down near the Infants school . I hung out with Joanne McMurray,Sandra King,Linda Lee, Patricia Walker ( I think ) she later married Ricky Shape, Susan Woodward and Bobby Elcome.
I would so love to be in touch with any one who new us from then,I live in NSW Australia now.my n same is Terry
