More about this scene

In the 1790s, after much deliberation, the Chelmer was canalised between Chelmsford and Maldon. This particular bend of the river was bypassed - note the absence of towpaths on either side. We are not far from Sandford Mill here: a view which, despite its proximity to the ever-expanding Chelmer Village, has so far escaped development.

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

By the 1900's the Benton family owned the Post Office, a cycle shop and were the local Blacksmiths. Would like some information on whether the Plough and the surrounding area is still there.
