Rivington Road Primary School

A Memory of St Helens.

I was curious to know if anyone remembered the school in the early 60s- I enjoyed my time at Rivington Road- remember the bluebells near the school and love them to this day. We had a trainee teacher who really inspired me - even now I remember making water clocks and dying fabric like they did in Roman times - I used onion skins and it turned the fabric yellow! We built Hadrian's wall in the classroom - fabulous stuff!!!!
I remember sports days in the field and being too embarrassed to remove my dress - which was over my sports kit I'd like to add - so I sat there and refused to run! What a little madam eh?
The head at the time was a lovely chap called Mr. Smeltzer - kind and patient, but he visited the classes and tested our mental arithmetic- oh dear- I may have been OK with history but maths and myself were never easy bedfellows!
I didn't stay long there as we had to move to Ormskirk. I had a lovely friend called Susan Jones - a pretty little girl with blonde hair. I went to her birthday party and remember dancing to Bits and Pieces by Dave Clark Five. I have memories af the corner shop by Cowley High School - wonder if its there still? Many happy times.
