More about this scene
Positioned alongside the old course of the Great North Road, the unusual and impressive 'Bottle Lodges' at the entrance to Burghley Park must have been a familiar sight to travellers approaching Stamford in the 1920s. They were designed by the local architect William Legg and were built in 1801, incorporating in their design elements from both Burghley and Wothorpe Houses, to celebrate the 10th Earl's elevation to the rank of Marquess of Exeter.
