Stourbridge, High Street c.1950

More about this scene
Stourbridge's great tragedy is its ring road, one of the most damaging examples of its type in existence. It throttles the town centre, and its construction involved the wholesale demolition of attractive buildings. Those on the right of this picture were lucky: they narrowly escaped demolition. But they have still suffered the indignity of inappropriate modernisation.
