Park Gardens

A Memory of Stroud.

Gosh, I remember the park gardens. I spent the first three years of my life at 2 Ashton villas in slad road, just along from the gardens. Mrs Vincent owned the house. Whenever the sun shone, we were taken to the park. I particularly remember the shelter at the top end, but in a visit there some 5 years ago, I was disappointed to see that it was no longer there. Does anyone know what happened to it, or when it was removed and why? I believe another shelter existed on the bottom path of the park, and it too has gone.

I also remember Park Gardens. I was at the little private school next to the gardens for two terms at the age of five in 1943. When my mother collected me in the afternoon, we would go into the park so that l could play on the swings. Very happy memories indeed.
Hello , I'm currently doing a bit of research of Stroud's old building and am wondering if anyone can tell me where exactly Badbrook house used to stand, was it on the same side of the road as the Mill or was it on the corner opposite the old police station on the St Roses side? Thanks for any reply's Mel.
Hi Mel
Badbrook house used to stand on the opposite side of merrywalks to what used to be the merrywalks bus station.it was demolished in about 1967, when merry walks was widened. The old police station/courthouse was on the opposite side for the merry walks/beeches green junction. I remember the house was edged with what was a tall stone wall to a 10 year old. Hope that helps. Regards, Frank Davies
