Those Were The Days My Friend

A Memory of Sunbury.

My Mum and Dad owned the Orange Cafe on the Staines Road West but when I came along, they moved to Green Lane. My brother and I had many happy days down on the Island in Lower Sunbury, both using the pool or swimming in the Thames. How the Cross has changed over the years. I remember when you had to drive round the old Clock Tower in the centre of the road. Also taking the 90 bus to Staines or the 216 to Kingston. Would love to meet up with anyone from Kenyngton Manor who remembers me. Contact via rogers.eldersfield@blueyonder.co.uk

Hi John. I went to Halliford School in Shepperton and Hampton Grammar. I spent hours at the swimming pool you refer to and travelled on the 216 bus regularly. I remember catching the 237 from Shepperton to St Mary's Church and then on to the 216 to near my home in Kenton Avenue. I also took the 216 regularly to Kingston where I worked at M&S .

I certainly remember the old Sunbury Cross and the Clock which you drove round. That area has changed beyond recognition but thankfully Lower Sunbury is still as I remember it. Happy memories.
My name is Carole Farley (formerly Lindsey) and I went to Kenyngton Manor Secondary school from 1963/4 to 1968. I’m married to Peter who was the year above me. My sister Ann was also at the school. We knew Susan Hewitt, Vivian Currell, Deborah Dean and Gordon Hill. Remember Sunbury Cross very well and teachers such as Bill Allen, Mr. Brown, Miss Parsons and Mr. Gaffyn. So many great memories.
