Sutton Courtenay, Church Street c.1955

More about this scene
This photo was taken from a little further along Church Street. There is a good range of timber-framed houses on both sides, and in the distance are the walled grounds, more of a small park, of Mill House on the Appleford Road. At the far left, the wall ramped up to the gate pier belongs to the almshouses founded by F Delderfield in 1818 for six poor widows. To its left, also out of shot, is the self-explanatory Norman Hall, a small stone manor house built around 1190: a rare survival indeed.
