More about this scene
These gardens opened on 21 June 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. They are close to the new civic buildings, and meticulously maintained—they must have been a joy to see. They once considerably exceeded their present boundaries, but have been much reduced with time.
