Memories Of Taxal Lodge
A Memory of Taxal.
My memories at Taxal Lodge are good ones. I started there at 12 in 1979/80. I did not get much of an education in the traditional sense but I got taught how to respect people, property, and the countryside. David Hughes was the headmaster when I started there aka 'Yozza'. Having come from a poor background on a rough council estate the place was a saviour for me. If I had not gone there I would probablt not have the life I have now. It taught me to work hard and have rewards for the things you do. I know the place didn't work out for everyone, but for me it did.
I have great pride in telling my son that I went there and tell him all about the canoeing, bike-riding, pot-holing, rock-climbing, etc and my main mentor was Gordon Fletcher, who passed away is sadly missed. The only person I still have contact with is Viv Darlington, and if anyone wants to contact me then please feel free. Bally
