More about this scene
Now the Tenby Sailing Club, the large building on the left is the former Sleeman Stores; built in the 18th century, it stood on piers, spanning the sluice. The Sleeman family imported a variety of goods, including wine, vinegar and fruits. Two members of the Sleeman family are remembered in St Mary's Church as being instrumentally involved in eradicating the cult of Thuggee in India during the early part of the 19th century. The large boat in the foreground is the Janwal, owned by Jimmy R Crockford.
