The Haling Path, from which this picture is taken, is the path along the river used by horses pulling barges. The bridge is the Thetford Town Bridge, a cast-iron structure that dates from 1829. Thomas Paine, the author of 'The Rights of Man' and participant in both the American and French revolutions, was born in Thetford in 1737.
