Thornton Heath Mid 60s 1972

A Memory of Thornton Heath.

My family lived in Osborne Road so my brothers and I went to Beulah Infant and Junior Schools. I think Mrs Colby was head of Infznts and Mrs Grumberg head of Juniors. Mrs Bird was my favourite teacher. I loved having stories outside in the garden in the summer. There was a swing and a large fallen tree that we could play on. My friends were Jenny Gray and Catherine Holloway. Jenny lived in Livingstone Road (I think) and Catherine in Osborne Gardens. I also remember Carolyn Moffat; Carol Milne, Beverly ?, Jeffrey? Sharon Jewson, Jane Worral, another Carol, Peter Morgan ( who’s dad taught my mum to drive)
I remember the rag and bone man coming round with his horse and cart. The Mooney family from over the road. And the excitement of being sent across the road to buy milk from the dairy. Anybody recall any of this?

Hi. I just happened upon this site and your entry while doing some research. I also went to Beulah around the same time and lived on Windsor Rd. I remember Mrs Grumberg and Mrs Redzewski. I recognised some of the names you mentioned. Some of the pupils in my class I can remember were, Natalie Jarman, Debbie Poole, Kim Meagre, John Meagre & Chris Bowsher. I remember the Lord Napier pub across from the school and my dad ran the Simla for a while. I can also remember the rag and bone man ringing his bell. I still have some old polaroid's somewhere of the Beulah class from around 73 or 74. Fun days with good memories. Thanks for posting.
