Caption for Thurmaston, The Church C1965:
St Michael's stands on the east side of Melton
Road in the centre of the village. Only the
tower remains from the early 14th-century; the
remainder was rebuilt using some original
materials by Henry Stevens of Derby in 1848,
who also restored a number of churches on the
west side of the county. The two rather grand
foreground tombstones are perhaps more eye-
catching than the church in this photograph.
