Childhood

A Memory of Torquay.

Wow I can give loads of memories in the 60s
Going down there with my parents. Ansty cove; Afternoon tea; Charity box on counter; As a black person supporting foreign aid; Put a coin on his hand twist his ear, coin went in.
Also the gong at bottom of stairs was rung when it was meal time.
Carpet bowls on reception, carpet.
Rock walk bottom gate
Cilla Black on at Princess Theatre 1964, no bar
Lovely balcony over looking the bay
Two TV rooms BBC and ITV - Watched 1966 World Cup final there with many foreign staff
Brilliant times as a child
Why did YMCA sell them?
I was taken to many YMCA hotels Ryle, Pitlochry, Eastbourne, Scarborough.

Comments & Feedback

Hi I am trying to research some historic information on the Danby Lodge Hotel, Lincombe Drive in Torquay. I know that it was a Victorian building but I am facinated in knowing more of its history, especially pictures of it. If anyone has any information at all I would be thrilled many thanks.
