Good Times In Trafford Park

A Memory of Trafford Park.

Hi when I lived in Trafford Park my earliest memory was being in junior school. My maiden name was Gilbertson and I had a sister called Elaine. We would play on the park in 6 th street. I went to Trafford primary and remember Mr Organ as headmaster I also remember a Miss Clark and Miss Goldthorpe. We would later play netball with other schools in the district over in Stretford. We would go swimming lessons at Trafford Park baths near Trafford Hotel and washhouse. I would help out in the libruary in 6th street which was next to the clinic. I remember the bonfires that were on the land between the park and the libruary. My father worked at Metros and mum stayed at home during the day and had a cleaning job at night. I also remember the Trafford Park pageant that was held every year and the process of picking that years queen, there was the new queen with red cloak, then the retiring queen with blue cloak, then the dowager queen who had a purple cloak. Every street decorated a lorry having a different theme. Then we went round the streets and ended up at the park for the crowning of the new queen. I was on afew lorries but joined the morris dancers some times. I stayed in the park till 1963 then moved to stretford where I went to Lostock secondary by then we had another sister and a brother Julie and Adrian. My mother passed away in 1968. We then emigrated to Australia.

My name is ken lee and my sister is viv we lived at 248,second
street. Like all the other park people I also remember Mr.Organ
Miss Clark & Miss Goldthorpe who I had a crush on due to her
always picking me to practice country dancing & to pump up
the tyres on her bike.
Life in the park I'm sure will stay with us for life and from reading
all the memories that's been posted the place will live on.
some of my school mates were:
trevor shaw, colin hamer, john bartram, ian plevin the girls are
jean clark, m.heywood,cynthia richards,dawn coleman.
Like many others during 1964/our family got scattered around Stretford into other communities and lost touch
I still played football for TP.Working mens club for a few
seasons with ken greenwood, sammy owen, mike lacey & john
davenport to name a few.
I would really like to hear from anyone that remembers me and
our kid and get to know how life's treated you all.
